MMMMM and NXNE

MMM poster - sm

Presented by Mechanical Forest SoundMoonwood, Manticore & Mirrors in May @ Ratio (283 College)

When Joe Strutt of MFS (and the Track Could Bend concert series) wrote “You could slot this (and not just alphabetically!) between Manticore and Moonwood”, Jakob said that would make for a pretty good show. After some badgering, he and Zach from Mirrors made Joe actually put it on. Moonwood will be performing a new, extended drone-kraut piece. Plus there’s planned to be a special all-hands-on-deck collaborative grand finale! MMMMMusic.

Friday, May 29th
EARLY SHOW! We do not mess around — this will start precisely on time.

REVOLUTION! (Live 14.06.28)

Off-the-cuff, improvised face-melter of a song. Jacqueline’s call to arms. Recorded live at the Smiling Buddha Bar in Toronto on June 28, 2014 by Joe Strutt just a little too late to make it onto Hexperience.

New Live Mixtape: HEXPERIENCE

LIVE MIXTAPE: 2012-2014. IMPROVISED SEGMENTS EXTRACTED FROM LIVE PERFORMANCES. DEEP, HEAVY, DRONE-INFUSED JAMS NEVER PLAYED BEFORE OR SINCE. ALL WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST TO TIME IF NOT FOR THE VIGILANT RECORDISTS. CAPTURED AT VARIOUS TORONTO PSYCH ZONES.

“Are you hexperienced? That’s the question everyone should ask themselves before commencing this 60 minute cassette by the Toronto based krautrock/psychedelic group Moonwood. Think of two jams, each half an hour long, which explores this mapless territory of drone-laden communal trippiness that just fluctuates slowly, rising slightly above the constant drones, like a hallucination of an improvised hippie jamming – a bit like Datashock’s Keine Oase in Sicht, with some great female worldess vocals added. This is the kind of psychedelia that doesn’t worship the amplifier or illustrate bucolic visions of nature. Instead we get the freeform, open-ended sonic tapestry that doesn’t really go anywhere, but in case of this tape we’re more content with the process of travelling itself than the destination.” ~ Weed Temple

“Having moved from a duo to a full band over the past year, this is a document of a transitional phase not yet captured in a proper album, so it serves an intriguing in-betweener. Perhaps it’s befitting, then, that it’s sonically at something of an in-between point, too, consisting mostly of semi-improvised mid-tempo jams that often link the more rambunctious material in the band’s sets. More of a bean-bag excursion than a skull melter, this might point where the band is heading after finding the off-ramp from the trans-anywhere express. Also: the tape comes in a very awesome shade of purple.”

SILENT LAND TIME MACHINE (http://sltm.bandcamp.com/)
From Austin, TX this one man avant folk soundscaper plays in Toronto for the first time. A master of warm guitar textures, builds loops and layers only to mix them into his own brand of post psych-folk. The love and warm of folk mixed with beautiful swells & sweeps of post-rock, full sounds washing over your body.

MOONWOOD (http://moonwood.bandcamp.com/)
Freak psych/folk project of Jakob Relinger (Arachnidisc) occupies an eerie space between some dark forest & the spiritual beyond that only exists in some winding & daunting expanse of space. His haunting guitar work exudes a elusive warmth & nostalgia that draws us into his realm. Vocal hums float through the atmosphere with draw out didgeridoo tones. Flute tones interact with bells and chime percussion as guitar notes navigate this gypsy-esque landscape. Mystical psych for the modern forest dweller. Dig!

SYMBOL (http://soundcloud.com/lightlodge)
Austin, TX ambient kraut synth relaxer, lays out some space-scapes for the modulating masses. Sounds stretched out to the point where they sparkle & glisten. The gentle hum of a note becomes a fuzz drenched wave only to subside back into a peaceful hum wavering in the expanse of time.

SOLHORN (http://solhorn.bandcamp.com/)
Avant folk/jazz/pop outsider Michael Mørkholt of Denmark preforms his compositions as Solhorn in Canada for the first time! Folk prog structures filled with a sense of playfulness akin to Shugo Tokumaru. Meandering songs, guitar notes joke with percussion in a languid way. Electronics bleep & bloop, ringing out there tones in a dialogue with flutes. Probably some of the most fun music you’ll have heard in a while. Come make the hang.
